Zaatar Naan

Zaatar is middle eastern spice mixture. It is belief that Zaatar makes the mind alert and body strong. Zaatar is used in no. of middle eastern dishes. It is mixture of Sesame seeds, basil powder, Oregano, sumac mixture and olive oil.

Here I am sharing the recipe of Zaatar Naan.

Ingredients:

For Dough:
  1. All purpose flour: 1 cup
  2. Oil: 3 - 4 tsp
  3. Curd: As required to knead
  4. Baking soda: 1 pinch
  5. Baking powder: 1 pinch
  6. Salt: 1 pinch
For Naan:
  1. Zaatar spice: 4 - 5 spoon
  2. Oil : 4 - 5 tsp
  3. Dough: As kneaded
  4. Sesame seeds: 1 tsp

Method of Preparation:

Dough:

  1. Take all purpose flour, oil, salt, baking soda, baking powder and mix all of them well.
  2. Knead it with the help of curd
  3. Leave this dough for 2 to 3 hours covering with wet towel.
Naan:

  1. Preheat the oven at 170 deg C.
  2. Take dough and divide it small portion.
  3. Take one portion and roll it in large size chapati. Put 2-3 tsp oil and spread all over the chapati.
  4. Now take 2-3 spoon Zaatar and spread in half of the chapati as shown in picture below.
  5. Now fold the Chapati in the center and cover the spreaded Zaatar as in below picture.
  6. Press the edges at the end tightly so that it does not open during baking. You can use drops of water and spread it at the end before pressing the ends.
  7. Sprinkle some oil on top of the folded chapati and put sesame seeds over it.
  8. Keep the zaatar in baking tray and bake it for 8- 10 minutes or until cooked.
  9. Now take out the Zaatar Naan and serve it with Achari Baigan or Aloo Bharta or any other curry or sabji of your choice.
Tips-
  1. Press corners properly so that the Zaatar Naan folds do not open at the time of cooking.
  2. You can adjust oil quantity as per taste and health.
